In this issue of the Book Lovers Club News, I bring for you the life story of a hugely successful writer of legal thrillers and crime fiction- John Grisham. Grisham is one of the only three authors in the world to have sold two million copies of his book in the first printing alone. He shares this distinction with J K Rowling and Tom Clancy.
Not much is available on the internet about this talented man. His official website has a page on his bio and Wikipedia reflects more-or-less the same information. Clearly, he lacks some of the star power that his colleagues J K Rowling and Dan Brown possess. His stars, however, have lead him to amass fortunes that few litterateurs in the world have been able to collect.
John Grisham (born February 8, 1955)is the son of a construction worker and a home maker. He found his way to college after briefly dabbling in contracting and sales. He switched three colleges to finally graduate in 1983 with a degree in criminal law. He practiced law for about a decade before taking time out for his first book A Time To Kill.
It took him about three years to write his first book. Finding a publisher for his first work was not easy. He got rejected by 28 publishers after which it was picked up by an unknown publisher- Wynwood Press. By this time Grisham had already started writing his second book The Firm. This book was an instant hit with the readers. It became the bestselling novel of 1991 and remained on The New York Times' bestseller list for 47 weeks.
Since then there has been no looking back for Grisham. He has written 25 novels since 1989, many of which are bestsellers. Of these 11 have been adapted into films.
