“Soul Surfer” by Bethany Hamilton is a truly remarkable story of a girl who has dedicated her life to surfing. Bethany would stop at nothing until one day she decided to go to Tunnels Beach, Kauai with her best friend Alana, Alana’s dad, and Alana’s brother. Bethany and Alana were on their boards, lying on their stomachs, waiting for a wave to catch until a tragedy happened. When Bethany was taken out the water and lying on the beach, more and more surfers came to help and support her. This continued the whole way through her recovery, along with her parents. When Bethany got out the hospital the doctors told her not to go in the water until they removed her stitches but Bethany, determined to get back in the water, would stop at nothing to get back on her board and ride the waves. It was hard for her to surf with one arm but with a little help from her friends and family she was able to accomplish that. Her story became huge around the globe. People sent her get-well wishes and some money to help her out since her family had to pay for her treatment. Later then she became an inspiration to children with missing limbs. Bethany still competed in competitions, regardless of her missing arm, and she surfed to the top.
