George Bernard Shaw has has been successful in exposing the bitter truth of love and war in this play. It acts as a foil to all the other plays that were written in those times which were mostly romantic. Thus,Arms and the Man is completely anti-romantic.

It acts as a death blow to all the romantic notions that one holds about love, war and soldiering.

The way the romantic notions of the female protagonist comes tumbling down is quite humourous.

In simple words, Arms and the Man is a must read as it has quite a unique theme and takes us to a completely different world than the world we are used to while reading the works of Shakespeare and such.
